The North Sevier Wolves gave a determined effort Friday night but came up short in a 30–20 non-region matchup against the Rich Rebels.
Rich jumped ahead early with two first-quarter touchdowns, but the Wolves showed resilience as senior Koy Wasden hauled in a 41-yard pass from quarterback Houston Mickelsen right at the buzzer to put North Sevier on the board. In the second quarter, the Rebels added another short score, yet the Wolves answered quickly when Davis Malmgren caught a 44-yard touchdown from Mickelsen, keeping the game within reach.
North Sevier’s final touchdown came in the fourth quarter when Zander Christiansen powered in from five yards out, set up by strong work from Ion Guerrero. Although Rich managed to add points both before and after that score, the Wolves fought hard to the end and continued to show growth on the field.
“The boys played really well,” said head coach Brady Wheeler. “Rich is a tough, talented team, and I was pleased with our effort. We are trending in the direction we want the program to go. We made the switch at quarterback last week during practice, and we felt it was the best decision for the team moving forward.”
Now the Wolves look ahead to a three-game road stretch that will test their grit. They’ll travel to Duchesne this week, followed by games at Millard and North Summit, before returning home to host Gunnison Valley on Friday, October 10.
“The road trip is going to be tough,” Wheeler said. “Duchesne, Millard, and North Summit are all quality programs, but we’re excited to see how our kids respond and rise to the challenge.”
