North Sevier High School’s track and field team participated in the Kanab Invitational Saturday, March 19, with athletes performing well.

              “Our team performed very well in Kanab this weekend. We place 4th out of 18 teams overall. We have a lot of young kids on the team that are starting to see their potential and getting better every week. Our older kids our showing leadership and placing very well,” said Coach Eric Mason.

               The girls sprint medley team placed second and the boys third, and in the girls 100m hurdles Avery Smith placed 6th with a 19.19 time in the trials and 5th in the finals with a 19.17 time.  She also took 4th in the 300m hurdles overall, and freshman Cale Torgerson took 8th.  Sophomore Braxton Macart placed 19th in the 300 hurdles.  Sophomore Jacob Johnson placed 9th in the boys 110 hurdles and 11th in the 800; sophomore Greyson Bennett placed 7th in the 100m with Ethan Fielding in 16th.  Sophomore Karla McCoy took 13th in the 400m and Ethan Fielding 15th and Coy Shaw 30th.  Bennett also took 5th in the 200 trials with a 24.65 time and 5th in the finals at 24.67.

              The girls 4×100 team (Rilee Mason, Sadie Hallows, Kinsee Saling, and Mylie Shaw) placed 9th, and the boys’ team (Greyson Bennett, Keaton Rosquist, Ethan Fielding, and Keaton Hallows) 5th.  The girls 4×4 (Karla McCoy, Trey Torgerson, Cale Torgerson, and Avery Smith) took first and the boys’ 4×4 (Jacob Johnson, Ethan Fielding, Jesse Aitken and Aiden Crane) 7th.

              Sophomore Ciarra Anderson took 8th in the 1600 with a 6:23.38 time and Brooklin Goble 16th coming in at 6:46.25.  Karla McCoy placed 4th in the 800m with a 2:46.57 time and Ciarra Anderson 8th at 2:52.62. 

              In the long jump, Greyson Bennett took 6th with an 18-03.75 jump, and Keaton Rosquist 16th 16-04.50.  Rosquist also placed 15th in the high jump-tying with Jacob Johnson’s 5-04 height.  Senior Cauy Williams placed 4th in the javelin and Jesse Aitken 20th. Blaine Anderson placed 5th in the javelin with a 33.46 throw, Clayton Duckworth 13th, and Cauy Williams 17th.  Blaine Anderson took 2nd in the shot put and Cauy Williams 14th.  Freshman Trey Torgerson placed 2nd in the long jump with a 16-04.75 jump and Cale Torgerson placed 14th, Kinsee Saling 19th, and Ciarra Anderson 25th

              Cale Torgerson and Trey Torgerson each jumped 5-00 in the high jump giving them 4th and 5th places, and junior Alli Mason placed 22nd in the javelin and Brooklin Goble 25th.  Mason took 4th in the shot put with a 31.05 throw and 7th in the discus.  Brooklin Goble took 13th in the discus with junior Tiphane Marty 25th.

              “We go to the Carbon High meet this Friday and hope to see kids perform very well,” said Coach Mason. “We do have some injuries we are nursing but that is expected early in the season after two track meets. We are excited about this team with 58 kids that came out and can’t wait to see their progress week after week.”
