Sevier County Commission Seat A
The Republican Primary Election will be held June 23, 2026, and will be conducted primarily by mail. Ballots have been mailed, and the voter registration deadline is June 12. Of interest to North Sevier residents, the candidates for Sevier County Commission Seat A are both Salina residents. Jed Maxwell and Newell Hales were each invited to introduce themselves and share why they are seeking election to the position.
Hi, I am Newell Hales from Salina.
I am running for Sevier County Commissioner Seat A because I believe that I have a lot to offer and that I will be a successful County Commissioner by helping Sevier County be successful.
I am a lifelong Citizen of Sevier County. I was born in Salina, raised in Redmond and graduated High School at NSHS.
I have been involved in the betterment of Sevier County my entire adult life.
I have been a member of the Salina Lions Club, I was a member of the North Sevier Search and Rescue, I served on the Salina City Council on two different occasions, I served on the Sevier County Planning and Zoning, I was part of Go Sevier, and I, along with my two brothers managed a multi-million dollar Corporation that employed many, many people in Sevier County for over 20 years.
28 years ago, when I was on the Salina City Council, I along with my co-council persons had the vision of purchasing and annexing ground so that we could open an industrial center in Salina to entice business and employment. Currently there are over 15 businesses operating in that industrial center and the ground that was annexed into Salina City, and there is room to grow.
I believe in smart, steady growth that will provide employment for local citizens, instead of importing workers from out of the area.
I also, along with my co-council persons saw the need to create a Recreation Department for Salina. In order to make it work and be financially viable, we needed to reach out to the other two communities of Redmond and Aurora and ask them to participate in this venture. It has worked well since then.
I have been involved in supporting and coaching youth sports, including football, wrestling and baseball for my boys and those of the same age.
I know how to work with people to get things done.
I support the principles of our Founding Fathers, The Declaration of Independence and The US Constitution. That rights are granted by God, not government. That government is established to protect those God given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to every US Citizen equally. That no one should be above the law. That justice should be dispensed equally without regard to race, religion, or status.
I uphold and support those principles.
I believe that a vast majority of problems that exist in Sevier County and rural Utah stem from the lack of equal representation at the State level of Government, when it comes to issues of legislation, taxation, land and water.
Our current Representative, Carl Albrecht and current Senator, Derrin Owens do the best they can, but they are unfairly outnumbered against the more populated areas of our State. I have some ideas that just might help level the playing field.
I have the qualifications and experience necessary and if elected, I will commit 100% of my time to be your next County Commissioner.
