Scott and Penny Gates were married in the Manti, Utah Temple on the 23rd of August 1974. They plan to celebrate their Golden Anniversary with their close family at a small gathering. Penny’s sister, Ruby, who is married to Scott’s older brother Kim, introduced them. They have lived in the Salina area since they married. Scott grew up there and hasn’t wanted to be anywhere else. He retired a few years ago from the SUFCO mine after almost 42 years there. They have always been active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were blessed with four children: Jeremy (Jessica) Salina, James Cubby (Kassie) Salina, Alvin (Debra) Richfield, and Melissa (Nathan Owens) Centerfield. Their grandkids are their greatest joy as they have been blessed with 20 (10 boys and 10 girls) and one grand daughter in law and one grandson in law.
Their love and devotion to family has held them all together this long. Favorite pastimes include camping with family and big get togethers where food and visiting is involved.
