BYU and SUU Invitationals

This past weekend the NSHS track and field team divided and conquered as nine of the athletes participated in the BYU Invitational and the other 31 competed at SUU. “They all performed really well and we saw several Personal Records (PRs) and state qualifications,” said Coach Eric Mason. “Those participating in Provo include Cruze Hallows, Lincoln Hallows, Cynch Wanlass, Easton St Pierre, Emmitt Nelson, Brayden Williams, Kade Johnson, and Abbi Roberts.”

              In the 1600m Kole Johnson had a 12 second PR at 5:07, Drew Johnson had a 5 second PR running a 5:02, and Max Cowan had a 4 second PR with a 5:23 time.  Drew also had a big PR in the 800m at 2:12:86, putting him in the RPI top 27, and Cowan had another PR in the 800m going from 2:25 to 2:19.79.

              Emmitt Nelson broke the 44 second barrier with a 44.99 PR in the 300m hurdles, and Makah threw a 20’ PR in the discus with a 94 foot throw. Will Chaston earned a PR in the discus going from a 47’ to 54’8.75, and Hayes Hallows also earned a PR in the discus with his 85-5.0 throw.

               “Our team is doing great,” said Mason. “We’ve got a lot of young kids that are getting better every week! We are excited to host region this year on Wednesday, May 6 and state is right around the corner.  Our team is peaking at the right time.”
