At the 2A State Track and Field competition held May 17-18 at BYU, NSHS Track Coach Eric Mason was named the Boys 2A Coach of the Year. He has coached the team for over ten years, three as head coach and seven as assistant. Mason loves the youth and has a special place in his heart for them. He has also officiated high school football and wrestling for the past twenty-five years and announces at the girls basketball and volleyball games. Active in both his business and his church, Mason spends a great deal of his time serving others, and his biggest joys, his family.
“Eric does an amazing job with our boys and girls track teams. He works so hard to provide a positive experience worthy of the time and effort our kids put into their sport. He spends countless hours at the track, home and often during his work hours trying to put his athletes in the best position to perform their best individually as well as finding ways each athlete can help the team be successful,” said NSHS Principal Jade Shepherd. “Although individual and team success is important to Eric, I believe that the most important thing he does as a coach has nothing to do with the sport itself. He loves kids… ALL kids. He wants them to be successful in life. He is a great example to our kids and our community. He is very deserving of the award as 2A Coach of the Year!!!”
