North Sevier High School has been a busy place as our Fall sports teams have been gearing up for competition. Several teams are being led by new coaches, all of whom are eager to continue the legacy of fielding highly competitive teams that represent the best values of our North Sevier community. Michelle Roberts, our seasoned volleyball coach, is now the longest-tenured Fall sport coach. Two years removed from a state championship, Roberts continues to coach her girls with the same passion and commitment to excellence. She explains, “As a coach, my greatest reward is helping athletes grow both on and off the court.” For Roberts, the scoreboard is only part of the story; she wants the character her players develop through the challenges and experiences of volleyball to last a lifetime. Principal Ryan Harris sees the greatness in Coach Roberts, “I admire Rosey so much because of her authenticity and commitment to lifting everything and everyone in her circle. She treats everyone with the same respect and attention. Because her athletes know she has their best interest in mind, they do the work required to compete at a high level.” Coach Roberts believes that in order to compete with the best teams this year, her team needs to stay committed and trust each other.
Brady Wheeler is heading into his second year at the helm of Wolves football. His commitment to building the program is paying off as more and more athletes are joining. Convincing athletes to be part of something bigger than self and elevated expectations seems to be the winning formula for Coach Wheeler. “Brady is a high character leader who naturally draws people in because of the values he stands on,” claims Mr. Harris, “He understands the level of dedication required to be successful and he sacrifices significant time and energy to provide opportunities for our athletes.” Wheeler is known for being firm but fair and building a culture of unity. The satisfaction of creating a sense of togetherness is rewarding, but Wheeler finds his purpose in smaller things, too. “I enjoy seeing a kid suddenly recognize what his potential is, work hard to reach it, and then realize the growth that comes from it.” The football team has made a worthy off-season effort, and Coach Wheeler is eager for his players to see their hard work pay off.
