Volunteers Recognized

R6’s Regional Council held their annual volunteer banquet on September 5th, 2024. “Our Six Counties have a total of 455, volunteers currently serving who are aged 55 and older,” said Maradee Peterson, Volunteer Services Manager. “We have 19 foster grandparents who are currently placed in the schools to help out in the classroom and 13 senior companions who help elderly people stay in their homes longer by helping them with doctor appointments, grocery stores, and just checking in and helping where they can.”

These volunteers for the fiscal year 2024 (July 1st, 2023 to June 30th, 2024) served their six-county communities a total of 57,169 volunteer hours.  They serve in schools, hospitals, visitor centers, food banks, humanitarian groups, museums, and many other ways.

Totally Awesome Awards went to Blair Painter, Nephi, Paul Wayman, Piute, Jill Bingham, Sanpete, John Pfau, Sevier, and Margaret Re from Wayne County.  A group of senior volunteers at Delta South Elementary were also honored, including Mil Vickie Allred, Patricia Schena, Jim Peterson, Mary Ann Banks, Sharalyn Clayton, and Careen Murdock.

The following volunteers received a Lifetime Award, which means they have volunteered over 4,000 hours: Stanley Adams (4068), Roxey Taylor (4040), and Jane Bailey (4085).

“We have amazing seniors in our six counties who contribute much of their time, making a difference in our communities and setting an amazing example for all,” said Peterson.
