Utah House of Representatives Report

Utah Monuments and Public Lands Lawsuit
Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes filed a lawsuit challenging President Biden’s federal overreach on Utah’s public lands. I join him and other state leaders in fighting to ensure that our public lands are adequately protected and that smart stewardship remains with the people closest to the land. Watch the video found at https://www.youtube.com/embed/81tnFdREyUg to learn more about our fight to stop federal overreach. These Presidential Monument declarations should adhere to the Antiquities Act, which states, “the smallest amount to protect artifacts, etc.”
Interim Meetings
Interim meetings resumed in August, allowing my colleagues and I the chance to meet and discuss several key issues our state is currently facing. If you want to stay up to date on the topics we’re talking about, you can read the highlights at https://le.utah.gov/interim/2022/pdf/00003365.pdf. You can also participate both in person on Capitol Hill, or online during next month’s interim meetings, scheduled for September 20th and 21st. To participate online, go to https://le.utah.gov
Great Salt Lake Tour
This past month, House Speaker Brad Wilson, along with Senator Mitt Romney and a few of my colleagues, had the opportunity to take a tour of the Great Salt Lake and some of its key industries. Protecting the Great Salt Lake is in the economic best interest of every Utahn. To get an up-close look at the lake for yourself, go to https://www.romney.senate.gov/romney-and-utah-speaker-brad-wilson-tour-the-great-salt-lake/
Speaking of the Great Salt Lake, Speaker Wilson will host the second annual Great Salt Lake Summit on October 13th and you are invited to participate! To register, go to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1pF0YWbNSV1t0ZHHbgP3ZJlVgfYKYCvJdo2qVES0LSTs/viewform?edit_requested=true
SafeUT App
As the new school year begins, the safety of all Utah students is of the utmost importance. The SafeUT app is a resource available to students, parents/guardians, and teachers. Last year, counselors responded to over 32,000 chats. From those chats, officials were able to respond to about 314 potential school threats or acts of violence and 300 incidents involving life-saving interventions for students at risk of attempting suicide. Every student’s life in Utah is precious and should be protected. To download the app, go to https://safeut.org/
Sevier River Dam Study
During the 2022 Session, I requested and received $500,000 to study the reconstruction of the Hatch Town Dam, which washed out many years ago. This study is being completed now. It will be interesting to see the results. Additional water storage is important throughout the State.
