Suzanne Payne

Our wonderful wife, mother, grandma, sister and friend Suzanne “Suzy” Payne passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2024 at her home in Salina. She was born on February 27, 1964 to Howard Eugene and Renon Roundy Reed in Salmon Idaho. She grew up with two sisters Diane and Joann and between the three of them they have many memories and stories.
She attended South Sevier High school with the Class of 1982.
In 1981, Suzanne married Kim Payne of Salina and together they raised four beautiful daughters: Kimberlie, Tiffanie, Brittanie and Shelbie. Kim and Suzanne have been married 42 years.
In her younger years, Suzanne loved spending time with her grandma Marie Reed. She talked a lot about her memories of going to Challis, ID with her grandma. She loved her grandma Marie very much. Suzy always said she was her grandpa Otto Roundy’s favorite, she loved going to Escalante to see him and grandma Hilda. Suzanne loved bowling and was very good at it. She was a part of several bowling leagues winning several awards with her bowling skills. Her name is still on the leader boards at Jorgensen’s Lanes in Richfield. She also loved playing softball where she played 1st base and shortstop. She played on multiple teams until a knee injury made it so she couldn’t play anymore. Suzanne loved to garden and she was one of the best around. She loved learning new things about how to grow the best tomatoes. She planted a huge garden and multiple flower pots every summer-she planted over 100 tomato plants so she could bottle tomato juice. She looked forward to juicing her beautiful tomatoes from her very own garden that she was so proud of. She learned to love gardening from her father “Geno” he taught her how to grow the best tomatoes. Suzy loved her dad very much and was very sad when she lost him back in March 2017. Geno also taught Suzy how to be an AMAZING cook. She made the BEST tacos, pork chops, chicken noodle soup and mashed potatoes. She loved to cook!
Suzanne was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Suzanne loved working at Mom’s Café for many years for Carolyn Jensen and with the rest of the girls. She made many lifetime friendships while waiting tables and catering to her customers. Later Suzanne decided to be a stay at home wife, mom and grandma. She also helped Kim with their hunting/guiding business Rim Rock Outfitters. She fixed a lot of meals at the house to feed the hunters. She also traveled lots of miles to pick up hunters at the Salt Lake airport. Through the guiding business Kim and Suzanne have made numerous lifelong friends.
She loved going to the Book Cliffs camping with her husband Kim and her favorite thing was looking for wild horses. As a family they enjoyed many camping and hunting adventures in the mountains of Utah. As a family, their favorite adventure was going to the Cheyenne Frontier Days.
Suzanne’s greatest accomplishment is her family. She loved them with her whole heart, including her four sons-in-law. Suzanne’s greatest joy was being “Grandma Suzy” to her 9 little people! From the time she became a grandma she spent most of her days tending her little people and caring for their every need. She was so proud of her “little people” she always bragged about their accomplishments. Suzy made sure they always knew how much she loved them. Grandma and Grandpa gave each of their grandchildren their own special nickname and they always felt so special. These 9 little people are really going to miss their “Suzy”.
Suzanne leaves behind her husband, Kim; daughters: Kimberlie (Landon) Sorenson, Tiffanie (Matt) Wanner, Brittanie (Curt) Dalley and Shelbie (Josh) Meacham; grandchildren: Jarrett “Pup”, JaKelle “Flipper”, Jake “Budger”, Matti “Red”, Teya “Lefty”, Cinch “Cracker”, Schap “Stick”, Hayes “Spud”, and Rawlie “Rue Rue”; mother, Renon Reed; mother-in-law, Claudette Peterson; sisters: Diane (Robbie) Pierce, Joann (Rodney) Nay.
Preceded in death by her father, Gene Reed; father-in-law, Jerry LaMont Payne; and sister-in-law, Sandra Hansen.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Salina Stake Center where friends may call for visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 am.
