Stan Higgins
Gunnison, Utah
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Stanley William Higgins “Stan”), passed away, surrounded by loved ones, on July 24, 2023 at 10:30 p.m. in Syracuse. Stan and his loving wife, Kathy, created a grand legacy of 53 wonderful years of marriage, 7 children, 34 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Stan loved his family above all else and made sure to let them all know each time he saw them how important they were and how much he loved them.
Stan was a very active member in his small community of Gunnison. He was known for
playing in his local church basketball league, participating in the high school marching band, coaching Little League Baseball, and volunteered as firefighter and paramedic. Stan was a
member of the Sons of the American Legion and later became its commander.
Stan was a faithful follower of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions including Primary teacher, Young Men’s president, and temple worker. Stan served a mission to Scotland and later on in life was able to serve a mission with his sweetheart, Kathy, in a church service mission at the Bishop’s Storehouse.
Stan graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1965 where he made lifelong friends. After serving his mission, he went to college at what is now Southern Utah University. He transferred up to Weber State University where he met the love of his life. Stan and Kathy were later married in the Manti Temple on May 22, 1970 where they were sealed for time and
all eternity. After a couple of years, they moved to his hometown in Gunnison to raise their family. Stan worked as a coal miner and member of the mine search and rescue team for many years.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Katherine Ann Bingham Higgins; his children: Tori Sue Higgins (Steve Kesler), Big Rock Candy Mountain; Darrin Stanley Higgins, Hildale; Clinton
