Spirit of Sport

Each year the Utah High School Athletic Association, in conjunction with the National Federation of State High Schools, honors one student athlete who best exemplifies the true “Spirit of Sport”, and who represents the core mission of education-based activities.  Greyson Bennett of North Sevier High School was honored Thursday night at the 2A Basketball State Tournament as the recipient of the UHSAA Sprit of Sport Award.

Greyson, the son of Ray and Michelle Bennett, Aurora, is a sophomore at North Sevier High School where he is a 4-sport athlete, participating in golf, cross country, basketball, and track and field.  A 4.0 student, he is also a two-year member of the National Honor Society and a student body officer.  He has found a way to excel in the classroom and in the athletic arena all while making people around him better.

“High school activities give me the chance to meet students from other schools.  They give me the opportunity to compete at a high level,” said Bennett. “I have learned discipline, the importance of teamwork, and many life lessons that have helped me grow both as an athlete and as a person.”

“Greyson is the perfect student to be acknowledged for the UHSAA “Spirit of the Sport” award. I was excited for Greyson and honored to be a part of it,” said NSHS Principal Jade Shepherd. “Greyson has definitely gone through some adversity in working through his alopecia the past few years and the struggles that come with that, but he has also not let that define him. He has shined in every aspect. He is a great student, an exceptional athlete, but more importantly a great friend to everyone he meets, both on and off the court, which ultimately is why he was nominated for the award. As we filled out the application and asked his teachers and friends what made him stand out, it all came down to the type of person he is, the type of friend he is to everyone, that he is a great teammate that encourages those around him to be better, and the type of student he is, always at his best! It’s always a good thing when we get to honor students like Greyson for being just exceptional in every way.”

Congratulations Greyson for your great example of displaying the Sprit of Sport, and for your example of determination and commitment to overcome the challenges of life with a positive attitude.
