Spirit of Freedom Pageant

Area residents are invited to experience the story behind one of America’s most treasured freedoms during the annual Spirit of Freedom Pageant, a multi-denominational Christian production celebrating the history of religious liberty. Presented by local members of the Freedom Through Christ community, the pageant will be held July 22-25 at the Sanpete County Fairgrounds in Manti. Gates open at 6 p.m. each evening, followed by a pre-show at 7 p.m. and the pageant at 8 p.m. Saturday’s performance will begin at 9 p.m.

Committee member Colette Peterson, Monroe, said the production features approximately 100 cast members and portrays the true story of Rev. John Lothropp in 17th-century England who refused to abandon his religious convictions after the Church of England became the nation’s only authorized church. As a result, he and members of his congregation were imprisoned before eventually being exiled to America. Their pursuit of the freedom to worship according to their own beliefs helped lay the foundation for the religious liberty Americans enjoy today. She noted the minister is an ancestor of many families throughout central Utah.

Before the pageant begins each evening, audiences will enjoy a pre-show featuring musical performances and recognition of local community members.

Tickets are $18 per person or $54 for a family pack of four. Organizers encourage families of all faiths to attend and experience the inspiring story of courage, sacrifice and the enduring blessing of religious freedom.
