By Sheriff Nate Curtis: Shop with a Cop was awesome! I got to hang out with two really awesome kids. We had around 105 kids that we got to go shop with this year. We even had Santa and Mrs. Claus come with us. Originally they were going to be brought in by Classic Air Medical, but they had to go on a patient flight and weren’t able to fly them, so Richfield Fire Department stepped up and we got Santa and Mrs. Claus a ride to Walmart. There’s several businesses and groups that helped out this year with donations. I do want to particularly mention Brent Thorne. Brent has made several donations to the online auction we have es h year and the. He also buys items in the auction as well. Donations from the Sevier Valley OHV club, Fishlake Resorts, Taco Time, South China Restaurant, Hansen’s Collision Repair, Walmart, Snyder Game processing, and many more. Thanks to both private and public donations this event happens each year. I’m sure I forgot some of those who did donate, but they are all appreciated!
We had kids from Sevier, Piute, and Wayne counties there. We had deputies, rangers, officers, Emts, firefighters, search and rescue, dispatchers, and Troopers from all three counties there helping.
I have been personally involved with shop with a cop for 20+ years. I have made more than I have missed. It’s always a rewarding event. I do need to express my thanks to the staff of the sheriff’s office and UHP office their spouses who come out to help with coordinating the fund raising events at local businesses. They help get the list of kids coordinated and ready, and do all the heavy lifting to make this such a successful event. They are deputy Bill Taufer, detective Matt Obrien, Cherish Cowley, Julie Barton, Shailynn VanDyke, Sharie Christensen, and Jade Murdock. They really make a difference in the success of this awesome event!
