NSHS Theater presented Seven Brides for Seven Brothers this past weekend and advisor Jaylynn Harris said it was such a fun show to work on. It’s based on the classic film where Milly, a pretty young cook, marries Adam Pontipee, a grizzled woodsman, after a brief courtship. When the two return to Adam’s farm, Milly is shocked to meet his six ill-mannered brothers, all of whom live in his cabin. She promptly begins teaching the brothers proper behavior, and most importantly, how to court a woman. But after the brothers kidnap six local girls after a town social a group of indignant villagers tries to track them down.
“This show had a huge cast, and in our small school that means we need to work with all the other sports and activities going on,” said Jaylynn Johnson. “Adam was played by Blaine Anderson, who was a football captain this fall and one of the senior wrestlers this year. Milly was played by Kember Johnson, who is on the RHS swim team. Every one of our brothers, brides, and suitors has been involved in multiple activities from cross country, cheer, drill team, wrestling, and basketball to debate, band, and drum line. “
She said they had a few technical difficulties along the way, the curtain broke during rehearsal, cast injuries, multiple mic problems, and on opening night the light board crashed, but the show must go on.
“The students in this show have been phenomenal and they made it the successful show that it was. Thank you to everyone who came out to support these wonderful kids,” said Johnson.
