Salina City’s General Plan

Salina City is beginning a Salina General Plan update and officials are encouraging all citizens to participate this week in helping shape the future of the community.

Project Manager Ben Levinger said the General Plan is a community guidance document which will share the vision/goals of where the community wants to go in the next 10-15 years.  The information gathered at this week’s meetings will empower the council, businesses, and residents in areas such as economic development, growth, housing, and transportation.

“This project will also help the city update their codes,” he said. “We are looking for generic information from the citizens.  Do you want growth? Where does the infrastructure need to be repaired? Which areas should be bolstered?”

During Wednesday’s planning meetings there will be maps available for residents to specify ideas, such as problem areas, suggested growth ideas, and planning processes.  Items such as transportation, parks and recreation, land use, and planning/codes will be addressed. He said after gathering the very basic/broad information at this week’s meeting, they will be more able to prioritize problems/ideas in the follow up meetings.
