The Excellence Foundation hosted their second concert, introducing the area to The Redfeather Acoustic Quartet this past Monday. The group began the afternoon by performing for the elementary school students, followed by a concert for the secondary students, then finished the evening with a free community concert. The Redfeather Acoustic Quartet, comprised of Brian Thomas (baritone/vocalist), Bill Ware (guitar/vocalist), Jeff Whiteley (guitar/vocalist) and Rob Ware, bass, have performed together on and off since 1968, and classify themselves as a singer/songwriter acoustic band featuring music from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s performed hits from popular artists such as Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffett, the Beatles, and George Strait.
They enjoyed their time in Salina and Bill Ware (guitar) said they love performing for rural communities, especially for rural children, and he was impressed with how responsive and fun the audience in Salina was. The vocalist, Brian Thomas, agreed, saying their favorite concerts are always the elementary school students because they are so enthusiastic and fun- so willing to participate.
The Excellence Foundation, established thirteen years ago, has coordinated 1300 live events throughout the state, helping showcase local artists who typically have limited access to professional venues. The bands are paid an honest wage, and through the organization they can share their art with interested patrons, free of charge, complete with professional sound crew and lighting, in high value venues across Utah. More free concerts for the North Sevier community are scheduled for next year.
