A School Resource Officer (SRO) is a sworn law enforcement officer assigned to a school, fulfilling roles as a law enforcement officer, counselor, and educator. They work to maintain a safe and secure learning environment, deter crime, and build positive relationships with students and staff.
Specific Duties:
- Works closely with school administrators and other staff members.
- Investigating crimes and incidents that occur on school property.
- Providing security and traffic control during school events.
- Teaching classes on topics such as safety, crime prevention and drug awareness.
- Mentoring and counseling students, particularly those facing challenges.
- Building positive relationships with students and staff.
- Collaborating with school administrators and other staff on safety and security issues.
Qualifications:
- Current Utah POST Certification, POST certified eligible, or ability to obtain a Waiver or Reactivation
- US Citizen, 21 years or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must pass a thorough background investigation which may include a financial investigation
- Must complete 40 hours minimum of annual Law Enforcement Training to maintain POST Certification
-Must pass a pre-employment physical fitness test (POST Standard)
