The NSHS football team presented a patriotic flag ceremony prior to their home game Friday night, and though weather caused the game to be called at half time, the Wolves are now 5-0 on the season as they beat the Monticello Buckaroos 35-7.
Nathan Snyder scored first for North Sevier mid first quarter on a 20-yard run, and just a minute later he scored again for the Wolves off a blocked kick. Kannin Boswell earned the next TD points for North Sevier just a minute before the end of the first quarter. The Buckaroos were able to score early in the second on a 68-yard pass, but minutes later Snyder again scored off a 20-yard pass from Ryker Frischknecht. With just two minutes left in the half Kannin Boswell ran 23 yards for the final TD of the game.
“I just want to thank everyone who participated and put together our flag presentation program. There were several parents involved in putting it together and they did an amazing job! It was great to have a feeling of unity in our community! The game does go down as a victory for us after being called at halftime for bad weather. The boys came out and did what they needed to do to secure the win in the first half of the game. We are excited for homecoming week and can’t wait to prepare for a very good Milford team that will be coming in this week!” said Coach Mason.
Passing Frischknecht completed 5/10 for 96 yards and Boswell led the team in rushing with 57 yards. Snyder had 37 and Senior Drexton Olsen had 26 rushing yards. Receiving, Senior Deagan Brazell had 2 for 32 yards, Snyder 1 for 30, Boswell 1 for 23 and Senior Breken Mason 1 for 11.
Junior Aaron Gale led in solo tackles with 4, with Snyder and Boswell each earning 3, Brazell 2, and Tyler Foote, Brogan Malmgren, and Guy Huntsman each 1. Snyder was credited with 1.5 sacks, assisted by Brazell, Gale, and Olsen. Slade Mickelsen, Boswell, and Huntsman each deflected a pass, and Senior Keaton Peterson had 6 kick offs for 348 yards including 3 PATs.
This week the team will host the Millard Eagles for homecoming Friday night, September 17, with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
