Jannard B. Murphy

affectionately known as  “Bud,” “Buddy,” or “Murf”

Jannard B. Murphy, born on December 2, 1946, in Salina, Utah, passed away surrounded by family. Buddy graduated from Granite High School in 1965 and furthered his education at Salt Lake Trade Tech and Utah State University. A proud veteran, he served in the US Army and Air Force Reserves, dedicating his career to the aircraft division at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 2003 after 37 years of service.

Buddy was a quiet, kind, and humble man who lived a simple life and felt deeply fulfilled. Buddy was a man of many passions. He was an avid collector, loved classic cars, and enjoyed playing Texas Hold’em and pool. He was a devoted Utah Jazz fan who rarely missed a game. His generosity knew no bounds, evidenced by his name on the Salt Lake City Memorial Wall for donating over 220 pints of blood. His volunteer work with North Davis Meals on Wheels since 2006 touched many lives.

Preceded in death by his father, Leo C. Murphy, his mother, Lorna Belle Rasmussen Murphy, and his brother, Sheridon Leo Murphy, Buddy leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his children, Casey J. Murphy (Jennifer) and Jeri Nichole Kyle (Christopher); his three beloved grandchildren, Jacie N. Kyle, Hannah E. Murphy, and Carter L. Murphy; his brother Donnel Murphy (Jeanette), and his sister Marlene Harris.

Having lived a full and contented life, he was ready to pass and found peace in his final days. Buddy’s legacy of love, service, and generosity will be cherished forever.  The family kindly requests donations to St. Jude’s in honor of his memory.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024  from 6 – 8 pm at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Graveside services will take place on Saturday at 1 pm at Pioneers Cemetery, 800 Quarry Rd., Salina, Utah.
