On Monday, May 13 NSHS’s Hope Squad sponsored their second annual Hope Walk for the students and the community. The purpose of the Hope Walk is to increase awareness about Mental Health and Suicide. The students were bussed to Redmond and walked on the walking/bike path back to the school. Along the walk were tables from the Central Utah Health Department and SafeUT, as student were able to take a break from the stress of finals and enjoy the spring sunshine.
“We want to spread awareness around this difficult topic and reduce the stigma of mental illness; we are grateful we can partner with local mental health agencies on this walk and plan to make it an annual event,” said Ivie. “Our focus is on connectedness, anti-bullying, school safety and we hope to increase help-seeking behavior.”
Dax Bastian, Ciarra Anderson, Carter Gates, Karli Jones, Kadee Bosshardt, Hannah Johnson, Paisley Hallows, and Anthony Lopez, along with Advisors Jessica Ivie, Tarah Johnson, Rod Hurd, and Lisa Taylor are members of the planning committee. Ciarra Anderson Brooklyn Goble serve as co-captains of the Hope Squad.
