Hales thanked for service

The Salina City Mayor and Council presented Newell Hales with an appreciation plaque Wednesday night at their monthly council meeting held December 8, 2021. “We are grateful for Newell’s years of service to the citizens of Salina and we wish him the best moving forward,” said Mayor Jed Maxwell.   Ty Willes was sworn in as a new member of the fire department and there was some discussion as to the direction the city should take with citizens parking on the streets during the winter months as it impedes snow removal.  A city ordinance may be in the works prohibiting such, but for now, residents are asked not to park on the streets November through April for snow removal purposes.

Also, a New Year’s Eve event is taking place at the Blackhawk Arena with a portion of the funds to be donated to Salina City’s Veteran’s Memorial, the budget was reviewed, and whether or not the Historical Monument currently located at the I-70 interchange needs to be moved to preserve it was debated.  No decision was made.
