Good week of Baseball

Wolf baseball had a good week and took a big win over Monticello on Tuesday, April 13 and also beat Manti on Wednesday, April 14th, however they lost to the Gunnison Bulldogs 0-7 on Friday. In Tuesday’s game against the Buckaroos, Monticello scored two runs in the first inning but that was it for the game.  North Sevier scored four runs in the second, five in the fourth and three in the fifth for the 12-2 victory. Marshall Okerlund, Breken Mason and Brody Butler each doubled for North Sevier with Okerlund earning 3 RBIs, Mason 5, Butler and Kannin Boswell each 1 and Deagan Brazell 2.  Butler got the win on the mound and had 12 strikeouts. “On Wednesday we traveled to play a good Manti team where we were able to win a nail-biter 10-8,” said Coach Josh Robinson. “Tayler Rasmussen threw 6 great innings recording 4 strikeouts and picking up the win on the mound. At the plate Brody Butler and Kannin Boswell each had a double while Tayler Rasmussen smacked 2 doubles and Hunter Hansen added a triple. Tied 7-7 in the top of the seventh with two outs and nobody on, Hunter Hansen hit a huge triple. Then with two strikes on him, Kannin Boswell battled and got the go ahead single to score Hunter, breaking the tie. Base hits by seniors Brody Butler and Marshall Okerlund were able to score two more runs and add to our lead 10-7. Junior Deagan Brazell then came in and got the final 3 outs to hold on to the win 10-8. I was very impressed with how we played as a complete team and the way guys supported each other down the stretch. We’ve had some heartbreaking losses this year in the final innings of games, so to hold on and get a complete team effort was a big deal that I think will help us down this final stretch of the season.”

Friday the team concluded their three game series with Gunnison, losing 7-0.

“While we didn’t play perfect, I thought our team really competed and played well. Facing the best pitcher in the state Jantzen Kiesel is a tall task. I liked that our kids didn’t back down and fought the whole game. I think this week of games will put on us on the right trajectory to where we want to be at playoff time,” said Robinson.

This week they will play a double header varsity game in Millard on Tuesday and a double header varsity game at home against Monticello on Friday. First game on Friday starts at 2PM.
