Thelma May Harding Probert, 95 of Scipio, UT, passed away January 29, 2021. She was born in Aurora, Utah on February 13, 1926, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Harding.
She attended grade school and junior high in Aurora and high school at North Sevier in Salina. She loved her school days, classmates and teachers. She graduated in 1944 during World War II.
After graduation, she stayed home to help as both her brothers were in the Army and her parents needed her.
In 1946 she met and married her sweetheart, Dick Probert and moved to Scipio. They have three children: Jeaneen, Richard (George Ann) and Penny (Blair).
In 1963 Thelma was voted President of the State Cowbell Organization (later the Cattlewomen Association). In later years, she received the “Spirit of the Cattlewomen Award.”
She was proud of being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and of the many positions she has held.
She had been Vice Captain and Captain of the Round Valley Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. An organization she loved dearly.
Thelma has been able to travel extensively, including Europe, Asia, Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean and most major cities in the United States.
She has had the opportunity to meet many dignitaries, political figures and church authorities. She is extremely proud of her nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Thelma said she had a good life and is appreciative to her Father in Heaven for the years she had with Dick and her family. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary shortly after Dick’s passing.
She said, “We enjoyed all the friends we have made and the special times we have had – as Dick puts it, “What else is there?”
She is survived by her children, Jeaneen Probert, Richard H. (GeorgeAnn), and Penny (Blair) Simmons; 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” Peterson Probert, parents, and his siblings.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in Scipio Ward Chapel. Viewings will be held Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. both at the church. Interment in the Scipio Town Cemetery.
