Roa Mason
1926 – 2021
Aurora, Utah – Our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Roa Dean Shaw Mason passed away at the age of 94, on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at her home in Aurora, Utah. She was born December 27, 1926 in Aurora, a daughter of William Hartley and Mary Jeanette Harding Shaw.
Roa spent her happy childhood years climbing trees, wading in the ditch, riding horses, running races, camping, and hiking the foothills above Aurora. Her childhood was unique in that her mother died when she was 7-years old, Roa was eighth of 10 children. Her hero father raised 8 of the 10 children who were still living at home on his own. She loved school and attend elementary in Aurora and in 6th grade she went to school in Salina, Utah. She graduated from North Sevier High School and from LDS Seminary.
On November 22, 1947 she married her love, Wendell A. Mason. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti, Utah Temple on June 21, 1958. Together they were blessed with three children Marlene, Terri and Ferald.
Roa loved nature and spending time camping, fishing, hiking, and going for rides in the mountains. She loved to cheer for the Jazz and BYU, and often cussed the TV when βherβ team was not doing well.
She served as secretary of the Young Women and on the quilting and flower committees in the Relief Society. Roa was a very dedicated visiting teacher. She was an avid writer and wrote many histories. Doing genealogy and family history was also important to her.
Besides raising her three children she worked tirelessly to help Wendell start and build their business, βMason Diesel.β She was the only secretary for the business from 1972 until 1997.
Roa is survived by her Children: Marlene and Ray Wood; Terri Nicholls; Ferald and Shannon Mason, 14 Grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Mary Shaw, brothers and sisters-in-law: Thurel and Karen Mason; Derrel and Kathy Mason; Royce and JoLynn Mason.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Hartley and Mary Jeanette; Grandson, Thomas Kirk Nicholls; Brother and sisters and spouses, Utahna and Glen Ainsworth; Deon and Linford Taylor; Etha and Lowell Hansen; Leo and Genna Shaw; Vern and Elody Shaw; Lois and Ralph Jones; Carol and Arva Shaw; Fonda and Evan Kennedy; Gail Shaw; Evelyn and Fay Roberts.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Aurora 2nd LDS Ward chapel where friends may call for viewing from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to services. Burial will be in the Aurora City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
