Lois Chester

Lois Chester

On September 19, 2021, Lois Mecham Chester was reunited with her husband Champ Clark Chester, who preceded her in death by 13 years.  Lois was born in Salina, Utah on October 6, 1924, to William Lynn Mecham and Esther Miller. She had three older brothers (Derral, Eldwin, and Austin) and a younger sister, Doris. All of whom have been anxiously awaiting today’s reunion.

Lois was born of hardy pioneer stock who trekked across the plains to settle the Utah area. It was in central Utah where she was living that she met Champ, who had recently returned from service in the South Pacific theater of WWII. After a whirlwind romance, they were married. Lois’s three older daughters, Lynda Lee Armstrong (Jim), Paula Ann Truett (Robert), and Jackie Lynn Butler (Billy-deceased) were born in Utah as she and her new husband struggled to make a life for themselves in a post WWII economy. In 1951, the five members of the Chester family moved to Macon, Ga where their two younger children, Champ Craig Chester, and Lois Michelle Bingham (Randy) were born.  Lois was married to Champ for over 60 years and watched her family grow to 121 members (two of those pending).

Lois was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and remained active in her church and unwavering in her faith. She was a talented seamstress and craftsperson, often making clothes for her children, decorations for the house, and gifts for others. She loved baseball and almost never missed a Braves game. She was a quiet, content, reserved, stubborn person who dearly loved her husband and family. Providing for them was what gave her great satisfaction, often, at the sacrifice of her own comfort or wishes.

Lois is one of those unsung heroes whose positive influence cannot be measured. The lives she has touched are incalculable, and all of those, in heaven and on earth, are happy to see her enter into the rest of her eternal reward. We will miss you.
