Jolayne Okerlund

1950 – 2022

Salina, Utah – Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Jolayne Anderson Okerlund passed away peacefully, in the early morning hours of August 23, 2022 at the age of 72 in Spanish Fork, Utah. She was born March 17, 1950, in Richfield, Utah, a daughter of Everett Lysle and Lois Fae Sorenson Anderson.

Jolayne graduated from East High High School in Salt Lake City, Class of 1968. She married her sweetheart, Don L. Okerlund from Salina, Utah, June 15, 1968 in Richfield, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple May 13, 1969. Don preceded her in death May 28, 2021. Together, they have raised four wonderful children.

Shortly after high school, Jolayne saved her money to buy her first sewing machine. Her early love of sewing grew into many creative outlets for Jolayne. She enjoyed making anything from doll clothes to quilts. She was well known for her soft sculpture figures, her embroidered towels, aprons, and burp clothes. She loved all things fabric and notions. Her handwork and crafts exemplified attention to detail in all she created. Years later, she decided to turn her hobbies into a career. She owned and operated Country Keepsakes, in Salina, for nearly 10 years. Here she was able to share her talents and knowledge with so many throughout the surrounding areas. Her and Don made a great team. They worked hard making and selling their handmade items in stores and boutiques all around the state.

Jolayne will be remembered by her contagious smile and funny sense of humor. She was a good listener and always had good words of advice. Her thoughtfulness and concern for the well-being of those she loved and cared about, will always be cherished.

She is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many different callings in Relief Society and Young Women’s.

Jolayne is survived by her children: Jason (Mary) Okerlund, Aurora; Justin (Tammy) Okerlund, Salina; Marlo (Jeremy) Taylor, Gunnison; Tyler (Ashley) Okerlund, Spanish Fork; two siblings: Trisha (Dean-deceased) Mecham, Spanish Fork; Terry (Sharon) Anderson, West Valley City; siblings-in law: Paul (Marsha) Okerlund, Salina; Janet (Jim) Towers, Murray. She was blessed to have 16 beautiful grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, whom she truly loved and adored so much.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a granddaughter, Taylor Brynn Okerlund.

Jolayne’s family would like to express their gratitude to all friends, neighbors, and family who have been so thoughtful at this time. They would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Ashford Assisted Living in Springville for their compassionate care for our mother over the past several months.
