1939 – 2021
Salina, Utah – James LeRoy Black, 82, of Salina, Utah passed away December 16, 2021 at his home in Salina surrounded by loved ones.
He was born February 13, 1939 to James Clemens and Flora Fay Branning Black in a small town in Kansas. The family moved to Pomona, California where Jim would spend his youth, graduate from Pomona High School and later attended College at Mount Sac.
In 1957 Jim joined the United States Air Force to serve his country. In 1960 while still in the service he met the love of his life Karen Evelyn Duso whom he married and spent 61 years together with. The couple had 2 children; James and Phyllis.
Jim spent the first part of his married life living in California and working for Freightliner Corporation. The family then moved to Salina where he worked and retired from UPS.
Jim always had a love for fast cars and racing. He loved to watch the races at the salt flats and dabbled a bit in rock climbing in Moab. Jim loved the mountains, fishing, and hunting (even if he didn’t have a lot of luck). He was a great mechanic and handyman.
He may be gone, but not forgotten.
Jim is survived by his wife Karen of Salina; Children; James (Barbara) Black of Payson; Phyllis Torgersen (John Payne) of Richfield; 2 Grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and a Clinton Torgersen.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 in the Salina Eastside Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Hill Field Air Force Base Honor Guard under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
